About this page
This page explains what you can control about your personal data in Old Ways and how to exercise your privacy rights. It complements our Privacy Policy, which describes in full what we collect, why, and who receives it.
Personal data Old Ways uses
Depending on how you use Old Ways, the app and our servers may use:
- Account details, such as your email address, name and user ID, if you sign in with Google or Apple.
- Device and app details, such as an installation ID, your push notification token if you allow notifications, the app version and your language.
- Purchase, Energy, subscription and map access records.
- Content you send us, such as map requests, areas you draw for a request and support messages.
- The map position you are viewing, which is sent to our servers and to some providers so the app can show available maps, search for places and measure elevation.
- Usage and technical data, as described under Analytics and Diagnostics below.
Maps, photos, points and files you import or create yourself stay on your device and are not uploaded to our servers.
Analytics
Old Ways uses Mixpanel to measure how features are used, which helps us understand the app and improve it. Analytics events can be linked to your Old Ways user ID if you are signed in, or to a random identifier if you are a guest.
At the moment the app does not offer a setting to turn analytics off. You have the right to contact us with a request about how your personal data is processed or to have it deleted, including data held in analytics, as described under Requests about your personal data below.
Diagnostics
Old Ways uses Sentry to receive crash and error reports and performance samples, so that we can find and fix problems and keep the app stable. These reports contain technical details such as the error, the device model, the operating system, the app version and information about the technical requests the app made, which can include a map position. We do not attach your name or email address to them, and we do not use them for advertising.
Device permissions
You decide what Old Ways can access on your device, and you can change or withdraw a permission at any time in your device settings, for example in Settings, then Old Ways, on iPhone and iPad:
- Location: lets the app show your position on the map. Old Ways asks for location only while the app is in use.
- Notifications: lets the app send you push notifications.
- Photos: lets the app read the pictures you choose to import.
Features that depend on a permission stop working while it is switched off. Old Ways does not require these permissions to open the app.
Delete your account
If you use the mobile app, you can delete your account yourself under Profile, then Delete account. The steps and what happens to your data are explained on the account deletion page.
Requests about your personal data
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access your personal data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its processing, receive a copy in a portable format, and withdraw consent you have given. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request. Data held by providers such as Mixpanel and RevenueCat is not deleted automatically when you delete your account, so tell us in your request if you want us to ask them to delete it.
Where the GDPR or a similar law applies, we respond without undue delay and in any case within one month of receiving your request. That period can be extended by up to two further months where the law allows it, for example for complex or numerous requests, and we will tell you if that happens. Where another law applies, the response time set by that law applies.
